What we were up to during World Shorebirds Day 🕊 We had a blast during our 'Breakfast with the Birds' event on the 10th of September at the Landing Lights Wetlands. The tour of these gorgeous wetlands, often unknown in Sydney, was guided by the incredibly knowledgeable bird expert, Geoff Francis. He really taught us so much about the native birds that reside in these wetlands! Tomorrow is World Shorebird Day! Several species of shorebirds breed and nest in Alberta's native grasslands, including the long-billed curlew. The long-billed curlew is North America’s largest shorebird and is easily recognized by its long, downcurved bill—perfect for grabbing grasshoppers and other invertebrates from amongst the grasses. Grazing by cattle helps create the mix of grass heights curlews need to nest, rear their broods, and forage. Unfortunately, this species is at risk in Alberta
