One of Sir Frederick Ashton's greatest masterpieces, Symphonic Variations, celebrates its 75th anniversary today. To celebrate, we're very pleased to release some never-before-seen footage, filmed and recorded on a single camera, in a photo call in 2011. In 1940, at the height of the Blitz, Sir Frederick Ashton created Dante Sonata, a commentary of the futility of war. The choreography was lost, but in 2000, with the aid of three members of the original cast, Sir David Bintley re-created the ballet.
